Microsoft opens the Web Skype public beta

The Skype team announces that it is possible for everyone to test its new web service currently in beta.

Skype is the heart of Microsoft’s communication tools and service available on PCs, smartphones, tablets or Xbox, is now much more accessible. Indeed, just the user to go to a single URL.

Announced in November, Skype offers Web to find his contact list, perform text conversations, audio or video on any computer, even those that do not have the software. To do this, it will simply connect to Skype.com or go directly to web.skype.com. Once identified with his account on the Web application, the user will find his last conversations synchronized company’s servers and will receive notifications.

In common with Outlook.com, however it is necessary to download a specific plugin to be installed in order to open permanent access to the microphone and camera. However, we know that as part of its work to the W3C on the Microsoft board ORTC protocol that should greatly simplify things. Note that for the time the Chromebook and Linux users will not be able to make calls.

With Skype Web, Microsoft is therefore positioned against competitors, including Google Hangouts, WhatsApp but also launched earlier this year the Web version of its messaging, or, Facebook recently opened the site Messenger.com.

Download Skype for Windows.
