Last week, some informed sources believe that Google – through its subsidiary Nest Labs – would launch a CCTV camera. Informants were right, since Nest has announced last night the Nest Camera. Not really surprising since Nest acquired last year Dropcam, an American specialist of connected cameras to more than 500 million.
Nest Cam: CCTV camera connected
Here Nest Cam, a surveillance camera whose specifications and design seem straight borrowed from Dropcam Pro. We are therefore in the presence of a surveillance camera connected, capable of shooting 1080p at 30 FPS with a viewing angle of 130 °. It can shoot at night to 6 meters with 8 infrared LED. The base is well thought out since it is magnetized to be fixed on a metal surface, or can also be fixed on a wall or screwed to a tripod. connected camera requires, the flow is directly accessible from the Internet with an iOS or Android app when the camera is connected to a Wi-Fi network. You can receive notifications when the camera detects suspicious movements or sounds. Indeed, the camera includes a microphone but also a speaker to speak, for example, his dog.
Nest Nest Aware also offers a subscription to record 10 or 30 days of video slidably. The service also features powerful algorithms as those built into the camera to be notified as soon suspects sounds or movements. With this service, it is possible, from the application, to redisplay a “strange” time of day. The subscription will cost between 10 and 30 euros per month, depending on length of storage. Finally, we learn that Nest Cam expected to stream live on YouTube Live. Nest Cam will be available in Europe from July at a price of 199 euros.
Nest Protect 2.0: the smoke detector improves
Nest Protect has been improved and has a new design, more compact. The new sensor can identify fast and slow fires. It is now possible to disable alerts directly from the application. Nest has rethought how to change the batteries (with a door) and a new support for easy installation. Finally, Nest Protect must be renewed every 10 years instead of 5 years for the previous version. The price does not change since the Nest Protect is available for 119 euros.
Nest Learning Thermostat: switching to version 4.5
Nest took the opportunity to update the firmware and smart thermostat connected to version 4.5. Some new features are emerging, such as temperature alarms, emergency alerts (if a Nest Protect smoke), an emergency power off (if Nest Protect detects a leak carbon monoxide) and better management multizone houses. The update starts to be deployed and Nest indicates that it can take up to two weeks prior to land on all the Nest Learning Thermostat.
